CIRI Alberta Chapter Update
CIRI Alberta kicked off its 2012/2013 educational programs in September with the
Inside the Trading Floor event. Derek Wheatley, Director, Institutional Equity Sales, Energy Specialist, at Scotia Capital Global Banking and Markets spoke about what IROs need to know about how their stock is traded and who the key influencers are to ensure a company is top-of-mind for investors. In October, CIRI Alberta held
Finance Fundamentals Part II. Following the success of Part I, Clifford Spyker, CA PhD. And Associate Professor of Accounting and Entrepreneurship, Bissett School of Business at Mount Royal University, presented topics that included how companies are valued, Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) – how it works and what are the sensitivities.
CIRI Alberta will celebrate its 25
th anniversary at the Metropolitan Centre in downtown Calgary. We welcome all CIRI members to join us in November to mark this milestone. The event will focus on a look back at the past 25 years of investor relations in Alberta.
And in December we will host our annual Holiday Social at Centini Restaurant. CIRI members are invited to share some holiday cheer and celebrate the season with fellow IROs.
As always, we encourage members to contact Alberta Board members with ideas for programs or interest in getting involved.
CIRI Ontario Chapter Update
As part of its ongoing efforts to bring value to Chapter members, CIRI Ontario launched its fall 2012 programming brochure and introduced an outreach program.
The fall brochure offers members a selection of five development and networking events for the remainder of the calendar year – three luncheon seminars, a mentorship breakfast and a holiday social. Seminars include sessions on National Instrument 43-101 and its implications for IROs in the mining sector, how to attract retail investment and the latest developments in regulation and their impact on IR.
The Ontario Board also kick-started its outreach efforts with the launch of the CIRI Ontario Ambassador program. Each Board member was assigned a group of members for whom he or she will be the main point of contact for all things CIRI Ontario. Board members will reach out to their assigned members on a regular basis to keep them abreast of events and programs and informed regarding what’s new. The program is intended to provide members with a single point of contact to ask questions, strengthen two-way communication, and encourage the
sharing of ideas.
