The 2016 Awards Ceremony was held on June 14, 2016 during the Annual Conference in Quebec City, Quebec.

And the winners are...

Shirley Chenier Accepts the 2016 Award for Excellence in Investor Relations

Shirley Chenier was chosen as the 28th recipient of the Award for Excellence in Investor Relations. The Award is given by CIRI to honour individuals who have made a significant contribution to the investor relations profession and to the Institute.

Chenier is described by colleagues as very generous with her time and commitment to the IR community and a wonderful individual who always works as a team player and places the interests of the group, namely of CIRI, before her own. These are just a few examples why she was chosen to receive this honour.

Since joining CIRI in 2001, Chenier has been a very active leader in the organization, particularly in the Quebec Chapter. She served on the Quebec Executive from 2013 to 2015 and was Co-Chair of the 2015 Annual Conference in Whistler, BC. In September 2015, Chenier retired as Senior Director of Investor Relations for Bombardier Inc., where she has developed a best-in-class IR program over 15 years. She is recognized as an award-winning IRO both nationally and internationally.

In accepting the award, Chenier thanked CIRI for the many opportunities over the years to share her experiences with other IR professionals.

Congratulations, Shirley.

The 2016 Belle Mulligan Award for Leadership is Awarded to Greg Waller

The Belle Mulligan Award for Leadership in Investor Relations is given by CIRI in honour of the late Belle Mulligan to recognize individuals who have shown singular leadership in one or more aspects of the practice of investor relations.

Waller is Vice President, Investor Relations and Strategic Analysis at Teck Resources Limited. He has over 30 years of experience with Teck and Cominco, which he joined in 1984 in an operations role. (Teck later acquired Cominco.) Waller moved to the corporate office in 1990 as Manager, Financial Evaluations. Other positions held include Director of Financial Analysis and Planning from 1998-2001, and Director, Investor Relations and Financial Analysis/Planning from 2004-2006. In 2006 he was named Vice President, Investor Relations and Strategic Analysis.

Colleagues note that this year's recipient, Greg Waller, has a track record of excellent investor relations. He is known for integrity, transparency, consistent engagement and candour. He knows what is truly important and structures his IR program accordingly. The Analyst Modelling Workshop is an excellent example of innovation in Teck’s investor relations program. Waller is always looking at ways to further develop Teck’s investor relations program and remain ahead of the curve.

In accepting the award, Waller commented that it "is a reflection of a team effort." He acknowledged each member of his IR team as well as the broader support team, which recognizes the value that IR brings to the organization. He also thanked the Mulligan family for doing so much for the profession of IR.
