CIRI Chapter Updates

Alberta Chapter Update

The Alberta Chapter has been busy with educational sessions, webinars and networking events.

February 26 – Navigating Increased Board-Shareholder Engagement

Pressure for increased engagement between shareholders and Boards is on the rise. Boards must determine how best to communicate with shareholders both in a business as usual context and when faced with special circumstances, such as investor activism and M&A.

Tracy Curran, ICD and Harvey Doerr, ICD, both corporate directors with experience on numerous Boards, talked about the important role IROs play in advising their Boards on trends and strategies, as well as preparing them for shareholder interactions.

March 14 – Brains Over Beers

Approximately 50 IROs gathered at a local pub to connect (or reconnect), share ideas and swap stories over a pint of their favourite libation.

April 9 – Regulatory Issues & Their Impact on IR

CIRI National and the Alberta Chapter hosted a live webinar discussing current regulatory issues. Canadian securities regulators have been busy over the last few years looking at a variety of issues that have the potential to impact issuers and IR specifically, including reducing the regulatory burden and the regulation of non-GAAP financial measures.

The session was moderated by Yvette Lokker, President & CEO, CIRI, with presentations by Anita Cyr, Associate Chief Accountant and Allan Lim, Manager, Corporate Finance, of the BC Securities Commission. If you missed the webinar, please click on this link to listen.
