CIRI Chapter Updates

Alberta Chapter Update

The Alberta Chapter hosted a virtual educational event to start the year, with a topic that’s been top of mind for many people as they develop their IR careers.

February 15, 2022 – Professional Pivot
Before making a life changing career move, it’s important to look at your skill set, experience and the knowledge you’ve developed throughout your career to decide if perhaps a professional pivot is the direction you should take. The event featured three former CIRI Alberta Chairs – Alison Trollope, Helen Kelly and Anne Plasterer, and moderated by Odette Ries Bustin. The speakers discussed how they navigated their careers to where they are today. This panel of seasoned IROs reviewed their career stories to provide valuable insights into the pivotal experiences along their career paths. Some of the takeaways from the event included:

  • Understanding how your skills and experience can give you an edge;
  • Knowing when it’s the right time for a career change;
  • How to leverage your brand, reputation and network to make your pivot a success; and
  • How to make a pivot when an unexpected event happens such as an acquisition of your company.

The archived webcast of this event is available at: AB: Professional Pivot.

The Alberta Chapter has several more exciting events planned for members this year, including one that deals with emerging from pandemic, and coincides with our Chapter AGM on May 3, 2022.  Stay tuned for our Fall program.
