CIRI Chapter Updates

British Columbia Chapter Update

The December in-person Holiday Party brought familiar and new faces together at the offices of McCarthy Tetrault. In typical networking fashion, CIRI members enjoyed a variety of delicious appetizers while comparing war stories from the mostly challenging year behind them. There were no shortages of door prizes, including a variety of gift cards from Lululemon to Amazon, donated by the TMX, Irwin and Nasdaq, plus two gift baskets from BTV-Business Television.

In January, as a new venture to increase membership, CIRI negotiated a contra deal that permitted us to have a small booth and attend the Vancouver Resource Investment Conference (VRIC), where we were able to meet new IROs and generate awareness of CIRI. It’s too soon to determine the effectiveness of this initiative but we are encouraged by the fact that it enabled us to familiarize several hundred IROs in attendance with CIRI.

This spring includes a Private Placement Event and the Seasoned IRO Dinner in Vancouver as highly anticipated highlights of an informative Q2!

Quebec Chapter Update

CIRI Quebec hosted events for its members throughout the year, including its new initiative, Mornings with CIRI. The main objective of this new initiative is to offer a great recurring opportunity to discuss the latest IR trends and talk with peers while having a coffee.

In October, a session with Oliver Wyman, a management consulting firm, was held to discuss Disclosure Exposure: Implications of the Changing World of Climate Disclosure. In November, Lumi Global provided an overview of trends, technologies and options relevant to the IR market. We ended the year with a holiday event in December, enabling colleagues and friends to connect in a more casual environment.

We expect another busy year in 2023 as the CIRI Quebec team is looking to host an in-person educational event in March and a networking event in late May, once the busy proxy season is over and to kick off the summer.
