CIRI Chapter Updates

British Columbia Chapter Update

The BC Chapter hosted a sold-out summer social event at Nat Baily Stadium for a Vancouver Canadians baseball game on August 22. With sponsorship from BTV Business Television and VRIFY, and a solid combination of CIRI members and interested prospects, it was a fantastic evening of networking, baseball, and dinner. The event was a perfect opportunity to connect with industry peers and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of our community.

On October 17, CIRI BC hosted a virtual event titled Communicating During a CrisisIn times of crisis, the role of the investor relations professional is crucial in guiding senior executives through complex communication challenges, safeguarding stakeholder relationships and maintaining the company’s reputation. As the saying goes, ‘failing to plan is planning to fail.’ Our distinguished panelists brought extensive experience in crisis management and shared practical insights and strategies, making this event essential for investor relations professionals who want to effectively support their teams during a crisis. Speakers included: Brian Cattell, Partner, CLP Strategies; Mélanie Hennessey, Vice President, Corporate Communications, NOVAGOLD; and David Salmon, President, Laurel Hill Advisory. The moderator was David Frost, Partner, McCarthy Tétrault LLP. The event was well attended, and the recording is available online for those who missed it.

Ontario Chapter Update

The CIRI Ontario Chapter Executive met in May to discuss executive operations, make introductions and draw up plans for the upcoming year, including the Ontario Summer Social. A second meeting, held in June, focused on formalizing committee roles and reviewing the Q1 CIRI Ontario treasury report.

Later that day, the CIRI Ontario Summer Social took place, bringing together approximately 40 attendees, including both members and non-members. This event provided a valuable opportunity for networking, knowledge-sharing and fostering connections within the IR community.

In September, four members of the CIRI Ontario Executive attended the networking lunch at the Essentials of IR event. Members of the Executive connected with approximately 50 attendees, shared their experiences as CIRI members and IR practitioners and emphasized the significance of ongoing professional development.
