CIRI Chapter Updates

British Columbia Chapter Update

In January, CIRI BC hosted a packed room for an exclusive event featuring Bart Melek, Managing Director and Global Head of Commodity Strategy at TD Securities. Melek provided valuable insights into the 2025 commodities market outlook and its intrinsic connection to the broader economic landscape.

The event was moderated by Fraser Ince, Director of Investment Banking at TD Securities, and covered a range of critical topics, including:

  • A review of the 2024 commodity markets and an outlook for 2025
  • Key macroeconomic trends to watch, such as:
    • The potential impact of a Trump 2.0 presidency
    • The Federal Reserve’s policy trajectory
    • Currency markets and geopolitical risks

A Q&A session at the end allowed attendees to engage directly with Melek, making this an invaluable opportunity for Vancouver’s IRO community to kick off 2025 with strategic insights.

Ontario Chapter Update

CIRI Ontario launched Q2 with its Annual General Meeting, hosted in person at Raymond James' offices in Toronto. Members reviewed chapter financials, approved the 2025 executive slate, and reflected on a successful year of programming and outreach. We thank all those who attended and contributed to this important governance event.

To support ongoing professional development, CIRI Ontario delivered two high-impact events in April and May:

In April, ‘Enhance Your Engagement with the Sell Side’ brought together a distinguished panel of senior equity research professionals from Scotiabank, Raymond James, and CIBC Capital Markets. The discussion focused on how IROs can attract and maintain meaningful relationships with the sell side, especially amid today’s volatile financial landscape. Attendees gained valuable insights into navigating coverage gaps, understanding analyst priorities, and positioning their equity story for greater visibility.

In May, CIRI Ontario hosted ‘What’s Happening with Our Stock? An IRO’s Guide to Technical Analysis’, featuring Javed Mirza, Quantitative/Technical Strategist at Raymond James. A hybrid event, this session helped demystify how institutional investors use technical indicators to assess momentum, sentiment, and trading signals. With over 16 years of experience, Mirza provided a clear overview of how technical analysis can inform IRO messaging and investor engagement strategies.

As we move into the second half of the year, the Ontario Chapter remains committed to delivering insightful content, facilitating valuable connections, and building on the strong foundation established in the first half of 2025.
