CIRI Chapter Updates

CIRI Alberta Chapter Update

The summer is over, the kids are back to school, and CIRI Alberta Programming for the 2013-2014 season kicks off with a presentation by Todd Hirsch, Chief Economist at ATB Financial, on October 8. Todd’s seminar will include a discussion of the state of the global, national and provincial economies, and how this impacts market liquidity, issuers’ access to capital and the future of the capital markets. Todd holds a BA Honours in Economics from the University of Alberta and an MA in Economics from the University of Calgary. For over 20 years he has worked as an economist at companies including Canadian Pacific Railway, the Canada West Foundation, and the Bank of Canada. Hirsch regularly provides economic commentary for CBC, CTV, The Globe and Mail, and other local and national news outlets.

Do you have some great ideas for CIRI Alberta’s educational programming calendar and would you like to play a key role in our events? CIRI Alberta members who are interested in volunteering for the newly formed Programming Committee should contact Dave Feick, Resource & Education Chair for CIRI Alberta.

Also, please mark your calendars for our popular Holiday event, to be held this year on Thursday, December 5 at Centini’s restaurant. Stay tuned for more details.

CIRI Ontario Chapter Update

On October 22, CIRI Ontario will host its fall Mentorship Breakfast, an event free to CIRI Ontario members. The breakfast will feature Tamara Brown, Vice President, Investor Relations for Primero Mining Corp, who will share her IR career experiences and answer your questions. Whether you’re just starting out in IR or looking to move to a more senior role, the mentorship breakfast series offers insight and advice on how to navigate your way to the top. Also, on October 29, CIRI Ontario will present On the Road: Targeting and Measurement. Join us to learn more about best practices, tips on using IR tools to identify your investor base, and how to assess the effectiveness of your roadshows. Whether you are new to IR or a seasoned IRO, you will gain more insight into two of IR’s most important outreach avenues. This event will also be webcast live.

And save the date for the 2013 CIRI Ontario Holiday Celebration taking place on November 21. The CIRI Ontario Board is currently planning a fun and elegant night at Eight Wine Bar at the upscale Cosmopolitan Hotel in Toronto. Come raise a glass with your CIRI colleagues, meet old and new friends, and embrace the spirit of the season.

CIRI Quebec Chapter Update

The Quebec Chapter is pleased to kick off its 2013-2014 programming with an always-popular panel discussion highlighting AGM Trends, which will feature presentations from both client and supplier perspectives. This is the first of many interesting topics planned for this year; the season’s roster will feature subjects such as: shareholder activism, economic forecast, crisis management and small cap companies. As well, once again we will feature an IR Think Tank with guest facilitator Neil Stewart, Editor, IR Magazine, who will return to repeat this interactive session. We will also offer a lunch event featuring a discussion between representatives from two prominent media organizations. Stay tuned to CIRI.org for more details as they become available.
